Posen Society of Fellows
On August 2012, we inaugurated the Posen Society of Fellows. Eight young scholars of modern Jewish Studies and two emerging writers of fiction on Jewish themes were chosen to receive $40,000 each over a period of two years to support the launch of their careers. The Posen Society is unique for creating a community that includes both academics and writers. It is also unique in its international scope: the first class of Fellows includes four Israelis (one of whom is getting a degree in the US), one Pole (getting his degree in London), one Swede (enrolled at NYU) and four Americans. The Society thus reflects the fact that Jewish Studies has become a truly global field. In addition to the fellowship, the recipients also attend an annual summer workshop designed to create a strong sense of “cohort” that will hopefully continue even past the term of the fellowship.
